What is the International Thespian Society?
The International Thespian Society is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the country. Affiliation brings credibility and distinction to students, theatre programs, and schools. It is a visible, positive symbol of the quality of your theatre program. ITS recognizes, rewards, and encourages student achievement and celebrates the work of students in all aspects of theatre—performance and production. Each student is honored on a national level and gains access to opportunities and resources beyond those of their school.
How It Works:
The International Thespian Society group at each school is known as a troupe, and it is led by a troupe director. A point system helps track student work, as high school and middle school students earn induction and the designation of Thespian or Junior Thespian, respectively. Students go on to earn progressively higher honors.
What Students Get:
- Pride, recognition, and affirmation in earning induction into an international honor society
- Official membership pin, card, and certificate
- Exclusive Thespian interviews for college admission and scholarships
- School, state, and international leadership opportunities
- Eligibility for state and international Thespian opportunities including training, mentoring, and assessment from theatre arts educators and stage professionals
- Dramatics magazine, the only publication edited exclusively for theatre students and teachers
